1
' 10 INTRODUCTION
This Site Closure Report (Closure Report) has been prepared for two
' former underground storage tank (UST) sites at the former Heinz USA
(Heinz) facility at 757 Eleventh Street in Tracy, California (Figure 1) On
behalf of Heinz,Environmental Resources Management(ERM) has
tdiscussed site closure with the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services/Environmental Health Division(PHS/EHD) and the Central
Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) This report
summarizes the data required by PHS/EHD and the RWQCB for closure
of the UST sites
' USTs were removed from two sites at the former Heinz facility in
February 1998 (Figure 2 shows the former tank locations) At that time,
releases of petroleum hydrocarbons from both of the USTs were detected
Petroleum-impacted soil and ground water were subsequently removed
' from the excavation at each former tank location A soil and ground water
investigation, including the installation of monitoring wells, was
conducted at each former tank site to determine the extent of petroleum
impacts Ground water remediation activities were subsequently
conducted to reduce the concentrations and extent of petroleum
hydrocarbons in ground water downgradient of each site Ongoing
' ground water monitoring indicates that the residual levels of petroleum
hydrocarbons at the two locations do not pose a threat to human health
and that bioremediation will continue to reduce the concentrations
' Therefore, no further action is necessary at either tank site to address the
residual petroleum hydrocarbons and the sites can be closed
1
1.1 DOCUMENT ORGANIZATION
' This Closure Report is divided into eight sections followed by tables,
figures, and appendices, as follows
' e Section 1 provides general site background information
' • Sections 2 and 3 provide details of the tank removal, investigation, and
remediation activities completed at former tank sites 1 and 2,
respectively
' + A discussion of the evaluation of remediation technologies and the
rationale for selecting the best available technology is presented in
Section 4
' ERM 1 HEINZ USA-3374 60-3/27/06
