' 1-0 fNTRODi,ICTION Draft <br /> On behalf of Heinz USA (Heinz), Environmental Resources Management <br /> t (ERM) has prepared this report as a follow-up to the report titled <br /> Underground Storage Tank Removal Activities at Former Heinz Facility (ERM, <br /> 22 May 1998) Specifically, this report presents the results of the soil and <br /> ground water investigation performed on 11 February 2999 at the former <br /> Heinz facility in Tracy, California (site) This report provides the <br />' additional site investigation information required based upon an <br /> evaluation of results from the current and previous site investigations An <br />' evaluation of the need for remediation and potential remediation <br /> technologies is also presented Finally, this report presents a plan and <br /> schedule for implementation of remedial activities <br /> 1.1 PROJECT BACKGROUND <br />' The site setting, history, and previous investigations have been described <br /> in various documents previously submitted by ERM to San Joaquin <br /> County (County) and Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control <br /> Board (CVRWQCB) Accordingly, background information is only briefly <br /> summarized below <br /> The site is located at 757 Eleventh Street, near the intersection of Eleventh <br /> i Street and MacArthur Drive, in Tracy, California (see Figure 1) The <br /> former Heinz facility produced tomato food products from the time of <br /> construction in 1946 until decommissioning and sale in 1998 <br />' During a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment of the site, ERM <br /> identified the existence of two gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs) <br />' that had been abandoned in place ERM removed the two USTs on <br /> 18 February 1998 During the UST removal activities, ERM removed 353 <br />' tons of contaminated soil from the UST excavations and pumped 20,280 <br /> gallons of contaminated ground water from the excavations ERM also <br /> investigated soil (GeoProbe) and ground water (HydroPunch) in the areas <br /> surrounding each former UST location to characterize and define the <br /> extent of chemical impacts to soil and ground water The results of the <br /> UST removal activities and investigation activities are presented in <br /> Underground Storage Tank Removal Achvzhes at Former Heinz Facility, 757 <br /> Eleventh Street, Tracy, CA (ERM, May 1998) <br /> 1 i <br />
