' Mr Harlrn Knoll
May 1948
Pa
Page 8
or BTEX, however, the samples collected within the capillary fringe
contained concentrations of TPH-g at 5,400 mg/kg (HB-15) and 680
'
mg/kg (HB-16), as well as low concentrations of BTEX compounds
Only one of the five sampling locations surrounding UST #1 (HB-6
through HB-10) contained detectable concentrations of TPH-g and BTEX
' compounds TPH-g and BTEX were detected m both the soil and ground
water samples collected at this location This sample (HB-6), collected
approximately 50 feet downgradient of the tank excavation, contained a
concentration of 170 mg/kg TPH-g in soil and 2,700 mg/1 TPH-g in
ground water Benzene was also detected in ground water at this
location at a concentration of 16 mg/l Soil and ground water samples
' collected from HB-9, located approximately 75 feet downgradient of HB-
c, did not contain detectable concentrations of TPH-g or BTEX
compounds Figures 4 through 7 present the concentrations of TPH-g in
soil, BTEX in soil, TPH-g in ground water, and BTEX in ground water at
UST #1, respectively
UST#2 Inveshgabon
The investigation at the former UST #2 location was also conducted on 2
and 3 April 1998 To determine the extent of soil impact in the vicinity of
the former UST, soil samples were collected in the unsaturated zone
' (approximately 3 to 5 feet bgs) and directly above the water table
(approximately 7 feet bgs) from four locations (HB-11 through HB-14)
' surrounding the UST #2 excavation (Figure 3) To characterize the extent
of impact to site ground water, ERM collected ground water hydropunch
samples from five locations (HB-1 through HB-5) around UST #2 (Figure
' 3) In addition, ERM collected soil samples directly above the water table
(approximately 5 to 7 feet bgs) from each of the ground water sample
locations (HB-1 through HB-5) to determine the extent of ground water
' impact to soil The samples were analyzed for the same parameters that
were analyzed for during the previous sampling event Lithologic logs
for all borings installed during the investigation are included as
Attachment 3 to this report
' The sample results are presented on Table 2 One sample collected
within the unsaturated zone (HB-13) contained low concentrations of
TPH-g (5 2 mg/kg), all of the remaining samples (HB-11, HB-12, and HB-
14) did not contain detectable concentrations of TPH-g None of the
samples collected within the unsaturated zone contained detectable
' concentrations of BTEX compounds Three of the four soil samples
collected within the capillary fringe contained concentrations of TPH-g
