Environmental <br /> Resources <br /> Management <br /> l r; <br /> • 1777 Botelho Drive <br /> suite 260 <br /> Walnut Creek,CA 94596 <br /> 27 March 1998 (510)946-0455 <br /> (510)946-9968(Fax) <br /> Mr Harlan Knoll <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Environmental Health division <br /> 304 East Weber Avenue <br /> Stockton, CA 95202 ERM a <br /> Subject Additional Remedial Investigation at the Former <br /> Underground Storage Tank (UST) Sites at Heinz Facility, <br /> Tracy, CA <br /> Dear Mr Knoll <br /> On behalf of Heinz U S A , ERM is submitting this workplan for <br /> additional remedial investigation activities to be performed at the former <br /> UST sites at the former Heinz Production Facility in Tracy, California <br /> (the site) This letter includes site background, and the scope of the <br /> proposed investigative work <br /> BACKGR O UND <br /> After removing two USTs at the site, ERM collected sidewall soil samples <br /> and groundwater samples from each excavation This work was <br /> conducted under the direction of San Joaquin County Public Health <br /> Services, Environmental Health Division (County) After reviewing the <br /> analytical data of soil and groundwater samples from the UST <br /> excavations, the County requested that additional remedial measures be <br /> conducted prior to granting closure for these two areas <br /> Following recommendations from the County, ERM conducted <br /> additional excavation and sampling of soil from the north, east and west <br /> sidewalls of the UST#1 excavation (located adjacent to the ramp on the <br /> west side of the building) and from the east and west sldewalls of the <br /> UST#2 excavation Soil samples were also collected from the bottom of <br /> each excavation at a depth of approximately 10 feet below ground <br /> surface (bgs) to determine the depth of impacted soil In addition, ERM <br /> pumped approximately 6,000 gallons of groundwater from the tank <br /> excavations and collected groundwater samples for analysis The soil <br />
