a1
. SECTION 2
SOIL AND GROUND WATER INVESTIGATION
.RESULTS
This section presents a summary of the soil and ground water
investigation results acquired during the performance of Phase I and
Phase II Environmental Assessments of the site
Phase I Environmental Site Assessment
A Phase I Environmental Site Assessment was performed at the Heinz,
Tracy site in August 1997 Results of the Phase I ESA indicated that two
formerly used USTs were still present at the site The approximate
locations of the USTs is depicted in Figure 2 Based on information gained
from interviews with Heinz employees, it is believed that both tanks
previously contained gasoline and that one tank was approximately 500
gallons in volume and the other was between 2,000 and 3,000 gallons in
volume Both tanks were reportedly taken out of service in the 1960's and
were subsequently filled with sand
Phase II Environmental Site Assessment
Based on the collective findings from the Phase I ESA, a Phase II ESA was
performed in September 1997 to determine if any subsurface soil or
ground water contamination was present in the vicinity of the USTs The
Phase II ESA included collection and analysis of shallow soil and ground
water grab samples near each of the USTs Results of the samples are
presented in the paragraphs that follow
Soil Investigation
During the Phase II ESA, soil samples were collected from two Geoprobe
boreholes at each of the two presumed former UST locations UST1 is
located between a loading ramp on the west end of the production
2-1
