(AGE) for the
above-referenced site. AGE included Risk Assessment — Soil Vapor Intrusion Evaluation in
Section 4.0 of the third quarter report, and Soil Vapor Intrusion Evaluation in Section 4.0 of the
fourth quarter report. Although a soil vapor intrusion investigation has not been performed at this
site, AGE put forth the following observations and interpretations that form the basis for their
conclusion that the residual soil contamination will not pose a significant threat to human health or
the environment:
• The source of the petroleum hydrocarbon contamination is contained within the
underground storage tank (UST) area since the dispenser island and associated piping
were located directly above the USTs;
• Impacted soil was detected at 12 feet below surface grade (bsg) during the UST
removals; however, benzene was not detected in any of the soil samples;
• Soil vapor extraction (SVE) was performed between November 2004 and June 2005 and
well SVE-1, screened between 12 and 27 feet bsg, mitigated the shallow soil in the former
UST area;
• Contaminants of concern were not detected at 10 to 15 feet bsg in confirmation soil
samples P-1 through P-3 collected in April 2006. (AGE noted that the petroleum
hydrocarbon detection limits for the three soil samples were below the Environmental
Screening Levels (ESLs) for gross contamination and direct exposure in shallow soil
established by the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board.)
• No structures currently exist on the property.
• Contaminants of concern were not detected at 5 feet bsg in soil sample OZ4-5 collected
on 11 October 2010 during the installation of ozone injection well OZ-4; and organic vapor
