(AGE) on your behalf for the above-referenced site. The work
I plan proposes the installation of one monitoring well; advancement of three. soil borings to be
completed as ozone sparging points; and advancement of paired cone penetration testing (CPT)
borings.
EHD approves the installation of proposed monitoring well MW-8 to be located approximately
twenty-five feet south of MW--1 and approximately thirty feet southeast of MW-2. The well will be
screened between approximately 30 and 50 feet.below ground surface (bgs). Soil samples will be
collected at five-foot intervals and selected soil samples will be analyzed. for total petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g); benzene,.toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes
(BTEX); di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), methyl tertiary-butyl ether
(MTBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butyl alcohol .(TBA), 1,2-dichloroethane
(1,2-DCA), 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB), methanol and ethanol.. In addition to installing this well,
EHD believes at least one additional monitoring well, screened in the sand zone approximately
4 sixty feet bgs, should be installed down gradient of the source area near proposed well MW-8.
EHD first recommended .installing additional wells to monitor :migration of the contamination
plume by letter dated January 27, 2003, and suggests you refer to this correspondence for guidance.
I EHD will not approve the advancement of three soli.borings to be completed as ozone sparging
points for the following reasons:
• The ozone sparing system has not been operational for at least two quarters (fourth quarter
2006 and first.quarter 2007) "due.to the temporarycessation of power (electricity) to the
system". If system operation cannot be maintairied, it makes little sense to add additional
sparge points.
I
,A
