14 September 2004
AGE-NC Project No 03-1100
3 0. PROCEDURES
All field procedures will be overseen by an AGE representative under the supervision of a California
Registered Geologist Procedures for SVE/IOS systems installation, SVE system start-up period,
sampling, monitoring, maintenance and progress/confirmation sampling and reporting are outlined
below
3 1 SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION/OZONE SPARGING PIPING NETWORK
For the SVE system, a network of 2-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping was installed above-
ground on 17 August 2004 The PVC piping was routed from each SVE well head to a vapor dropout
drum, the vapor dropout drum connected directly to the SVE A PVC ball valve was installed at each
SVE well head so that vapor can be drawn from each well independently
For the IOS system, a network of 3/8-inch diameter,PVC tubing was installed on 17 August 2004 in
appropriately sized conduits Ozone distribution lines were routed above-ground from each IOS well
head to a solenoid control valve on the ozone generator An oxygen condenser and ozone generator
is fitted into a compressed air-stream through a throttled venture This flow stream is then connected
to a manifold, under a timer cycled into the sparge wells using a 3/8-inch diameter polyethylene
tubing to well heads through a network via above-ground piping
A plan of the proposed locations of the SVE/IOS piping network is depicted on Figure 3
3 2 VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM AND OZONE SPARGING SYSTEM
A catalytic destruction process is proposed for hydrocarbon vapor recovery by utilizing an electric
heated catalytic oxidizer vapor extraction system (VES) The catalytic oxidizer is outfitted with a
heat exchanger to provide an effective destruction ratio at reduced concentrations of hydrocarbon
vapor Soil vapors will be extracted from the proposed configuration of extraction wells using a
vacuum blower and routed to the catalytic oxidizer Supplemental energy (I a electricity) will be
utilized to maintain the optimal temperature for a maximum destruction rate of hydrocarbon vapors
The VES will be connected through a piping manifold to the vapor recovery wells and should be able
to operate between 175 and 200 cubic feet per minute(cfm) The vacuum blower unit will be secured
by a chain-linked, gated enclosure which surrounds the subject property
Electricity is not available to the site A licensed electrical contractor (Carr Electric), working in
conjunction with Pacific Gas and Electric(PG&E),will provide an electric service connection to the
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
