10 September 2004
AGE-NC Project No 03-1100
Page 7of10
3 2 1 Soil Vapor Extraction Pilot Test
On 27 January 2004, the pilot test was initiated at 11 00 am and continued for approximately
5 hours An Induced vacuum potential was applied to the casing of vapor well SVE1 The vacuum-
induced pressure was monitored at surrounding observation wells (SVE2 through SVE5 and MW 1
through MW3)with Magnehehc vacuum gauges fitted to each observation well A sample port was
tapped Into the PVC near the wellhead and a portable organic vapor meter equipped with a PID was
used to measure organic vapor(OV) concentrations The extraction flow rate was measured in-line
with a flow rotometer, directly before the VES The organic vapor concentrations, induced vacuum
potential at the observation points, extracted soil vapor flow rate, and revolutions per minute(RPM)
of the SVE unit were measured at half-hour Intervals and logged on field sheets
On 28 January 2004, the pilot test was initiated at 8 30 am and continued for approximately
6 5 hours An Induced vacuum potential was applied to the casing of vapor well SVE2 The vacuum-
induced pressure was monitored at surrounding observation wells(SVE1, SVE3 through SVE5 and
MW1 through MW3) with Magnehehc vacuum gauges , e to each observation well The same
testing procedures were followed as that on 27 Janu2003 alytical results from the two pilot
tests are summarized in Table 3 and field data Is repo Table 4
3 2 2 Soil Vapor Extraction Pilot Test Sampling and Analysis
A total of three soil vapor samples were collected during each pilot test Soil vapor samples were
collected at two-hour intervals from the sample port of the extraction well to measure hydrocarbon
concentrations in the extracted gas The samples were collected in Tedlar bags using an air pump
Samples were transported in a chilled container under chain of custody to McCampbell Analytical,
Inc (MAI),a California Department ofHealth Services(DHS)-certified laboratory Each sample was
analyzed within 72 hours for
• TPH-g in accordance with EPA Method 8015M, and
• BTEX and the fuel additives MTBE, TBA, DIPE, ETBE, TAME, 1,2-DCA and EDB by
EPA Method 8260 Modified
4.0 FINDINGS
Soil descriptions were determmed from field data Hydrocarbon impact to soil and soil vapor was
inferred from laboratory analysis of the samples
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
