Charter Way, Stockton, CA (Site Code: 508175)
Subsurface Investigation Summary Report&Workplan for Interim Remediation
Dear Mr. Infurna:
Enclosed please find your: copy of the subject report. The report describes the subsurface
investigation performed at the site and proposes interim remedial actions to abate residual soil and
groundwater contamination.
I EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Three underground fuel storage tanks (USTs) and appurtenant piping and dispensers were removed
from the site in January, 1999. Soil samples collected following removal confirmed that soil_ had
been impacted by diesel and gasoline Hydrocarbons and by oxygenated fuel additives.
The current investigation consisted of drilling and sampling eight soil borings in and peripheral to
the UST and dispenser locations. Laboratory analysis of soil samples defined the lateral extent of
soil contamination which is limited to the southeast portion of the UST pit and beneath the former
dispensers. Laboratory analysis determined that soil contamination does not extend vertically beneath
a depth of approximately 20 feet. Groundwater beneath the dispenser island area has been impacted
by hydrocarbons. The volume of contaminated soil is estimated to be less than 200-250 cubic yards
and the area of groundwater contamination is believed to be limited.
The Workplan proposes to excavate contaminated soil and dispose of the material at a Class 11 Waste
Disposal Facility. The Workplan also proposes to pump contaminated groundwater from the
excavation and dispose of the sante at the Stockton Wastewater Treatment Facility. The remedial
actions can be completed by July 15, 1999 and will significantly minimize, or altogether eliminate,
wooi+ep.ehtVrpwe.kxees+mm.di '
