Chromalab, Inc. located in Pleasanton, California under standard Chain of Custody
Documentation. Chromalab is a state certified laboratory. Samples were analyzed for
TPHD by EPA Method 3550/8015 and BTEX by EPA Method 8020.
Sample results showed the absence of any contaminants except for trace amounts of
Toluene in all samples in nearly the same concentrations and are attributed to the solvent
found in the adhesive of the tape used to seal the samples. Letters recieved from Gary D.
Lowe of H2OGEOL via fax on November 04, 1994 and from Jill Thomas of
Chromalab dated November 11, 1994 incorporated hereto as Attachment 4 address this
issue.
BACKFILL
A large stockpile of soil was being stored on the northeast corner of the property and it
was our desire to use this material for backfill since it was of similar type to the native
soils that were removed. Since we were not certain of its origin we felt it necessary to
sample the stockpile to verify that it did not contain contamination. San Joaquin County
PHS/EHD also requires screening of soils from unknown sources. A total of 20 samples
were taken and composited into 5 samples that were analyzed for volatile halocarbon
compounds using EPA Method 8010, volatile aromatic hydrocarbon compounds using
EPA Method 8020, and total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons (TEPH) as kerosene,
diesel, and motor oil (to cover a broad range of heavier aliphatic petroleum hydrocarbon
molecules) using EPA Method 3550/8015. Sample results showed only the presence of
trace amounts of Toluene in all samples in nearly the same concentrations as found in the
confirmatory samples and are attributed to being the same solvent found in the adhesive of
the tape used to seal the samples.
After transmitting the sample results to Linda Turkatte and receiving her authorization the
excavation was filled using the above described soil and some engineered fill placed in 8
to 12 inch lifts and compacted using a wheel loader.
4
