NO IF 141 ?A
M-M-N-
tai
i
.0 Drilling of four soil borings for the purpose of obtaining soil samples to be analysed
-- in the field via gas chromamg aphy,2nd further testing by Bio National Corporation.
o Conversion of four soil borings to ground water observation wells for the purpose of
obtaining water samples for analysis at rireman's Fund Laboratories of Petaluma,
' - California.
i Sor'':,Prings will be drilled to enr_ le installatiqn of observation well. Truck mountsd hollow-
stem z:=aer drilling equipment will be used.
'[ Frill baring will be advsn-gid to approximately ten feet below the water table or into a clay
or other material below the water table, suspected to be of lower permeability, whichever is less
{ - deep. Undisturbed soil samples will be obtained using the Dames & Moore Type-U sampler
driven by a 140 pound hammer falling 30 inches. Samples will bo collected from the borings at
minimum intrrgls of five feet. The clean sampler will be driven into the soil beneath tLe open
borehole. The soil samples retained in the 3-inch stainless steel tubes will bo removed from the
sampler and their ends sealed with teflon membranes and plastic end caps. Each sampe selected
E for chemical analysis will be securely sealed, labeled and stored in ice cooled containers.
_ To prohibit cross-contamination of successive samples, the sampling equipment will be
disassembled between sampling attempts and washed with a tri-sodium phosphate !TSP) soap
., solution. The sampicii will then be reassembled with clean 3-inch stainless ctael tubes and there
used for subsequent sampling. All augers and sampling equipment will be thoroughly steara-
1 cleaned between borings to prevent cross-contamination.
j
Four ground water wells will be installed at the facility. `be wells will be installed for water
level monitoring and ground water sampling purposes.
Four ground water samples, one quality control dupticatz field blank,a travel blank and a
rinsate sample will be collected for chemical analysis for each round of ground water sampling.
Samples will be analyzed for total petroNlAum hyZITocarbons(TPH)and benzene, toluene, xylene,
and ethylbenzene by EPA Method 1015 Modified and Method 602.
,
V. HAZARD At4AI_YS1'2
Based on the site background and planned activities, the fol!owing types of hazards exist:
4 Pinch points and rotating machinery associated with truck mounted drill rigs;
Skin contact with potentially contaminated soil::nd water during sampling;
i Inhalation of organic vapors during soil and water sampling; and
inhalation and ingestion zf soil particles potentially contaminated with benzene,
toluene, xylene,and ethylbenzene.
Sampling in this area coFild result in the release of Contaminated particles and organic vapors.
iA minimum revel of personnel protection must be recommended that will prcvant skin contact
- with the soil and prevent respiratory inhalation of soil particles or vapors. Specifics regarding
necessary protective measures aro addressed in t::? next secti-:!a. Also, the attached Material
Safety Data Sheets(MSD..Ss) list impirtant properties of var'Jus contaminants thst may possibly
I be encountered.
2
i.
i
j
is
I
r
f.
a:
