FOOTHILL <br /> ENGINEERING <br /> 12793 PADDY CREEK LANE LODI, CA 95240 <br /> PH (209)368-9381 FAX (209) 367-1163 <br /> January 31, 1996 <br /> Ms Margaret Lagono <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Environmental Health Division "ECI <br /> VEm <br /> P O Box 2009 It Ed <br /> Stockton, CA 95201 APR 17 t996 <br /> Subject Soil Remediation Excavation Report ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH <br /> Holt Bros Office& Shop PERMIT/SERVICES <br /> 1521 W Charter Way, Stockton, CA <br /> Site Code 1988 <br /> Dear Ms Lagono <br /> The following is a report on the activities and the results achieved from the over-excavation of the <br /> site once occupied by seven underground storage tanks (USTs) The underground storage tanks <br /> were removed in 1988 <br /> THE REPORT <br /> SITE BACKGROUND <br /> The seven undergroundplaced between the main Holt Bros Shop and the Used Parts Sales <br /> facility were removed inOf 1988 Soil contamination was noted during removal of the UST's <br /> An initial investigation was conducted by Dames & Moore (Phase I) Four monitoring wells were <br /> installed (MW 1, MW2, MW3, and MW4) Soil samples collected from MW 1 showed high levels <br /> of gasoline hydrocarbons All other wells showed no contaminated soils were present Groundwater <br /> samples from both MW 1 and MW2 contained petroleum hydrocarbons and halogenated volatile <br /> organic hydrocarbons Wells MW3 and MW4 did not contain dissolved contaminants in water <br /> samples <br /> A Phase II site investigation was conducted in September 1989 by Bio National Corporation in <br /> conjunction with Dames & Moore The investigation included the drilling of five additional soil <br /> borings monitoring wells (MW5 and MW6) Petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons were detected in SB5 and MW6 (see MAPS Resna Fig 2) Groundwater <br /> contamination was not detected in wells MW5 and MW6 <br /> In December of 1989 Bio National Corporation installed a cycle skimmer pump and prototype <br /> biologic treatment system for operation on the effluent from MWI Due to the poor permeability of <br /> the soil, this pump treat operation was canceled shortly after it began <br /> . RESNA was retained by the owner (Holt Bros ) to continue project planning and quarterly <br /> groundwater monitoring Free product was detected in MW1 and dissolved hydrocarbons were <br /> found in MW5 The groundwater hydraulic gradient was determined to be sloping southwest by <br /> 1 <br />
