After sample collection, borings will be backfilled with <br /> bentonite and/or neat cement slurry pursuant to County <br /> requirements. <br /> 2 . 0 Sample Preservation/Transport/Chain-of-Custody <br /> Samples will be capped with aluminum foil and plastic end <br /> caps and taped with duct tape. Samples will be placed in <br /> plastic bags and sealed before placement in an ice chest <br /> with frozen blue ice. Accepted industry and EPA standard <br /> protocol and strict chain-of-custody will be observed <br /> during sample collection and shipment to a laboratory <br /> certified by DHS for hazardous waste analysis. <br /> 3. 0 sample Analysis <br /> Samples will be analyzed for total lead concentrations by a <br /> laboratory certified by the State Department of Health <br /> Services for hazardous waste. Samples will be preserved by <br /> the lab for subsequent analysis of soluble lead if required <br /> after evaluation of the total lead data. <br /> 4. 0 Health and Safety <br /> All personnel within the investigation area will be re- <br /> quired to have completed the OSHA 40-hour health and safety <br /> training pursuant to 29CFR 1910 . Inorganic lead is the <br /> constituent of concern. The Material Safety Data Sheet for <br /> lead is attached to this plan. Allowable standards for <br /> lead would not be exceeded without exceeding the allowable <br /> limits for nuisance dust of 10 mg/m3 . Engineering controls <br /> will be implemented to minimize dusty conditions during <br /> drilling activities if significant dust levels are <br /> observed. <br /> A mimimum of level D personal protective equipment will be <br /> required for any personnel within the investigation area. <br /> Level D protection will include steel-toed boots, hard hat <br /> and long pants . Additionally, if actively involved in <br /> sampling activites , personnel will be required to wear <br /> protective gloves. <br /> Prior to commencement of activities, personnel will have <br /> available telephone numbers and contacts for emergency <br /> response assistance including the following: <br /> * Ambulance - 911 <br /> * Fire Department - 911 <br /> * Hospital - (209) 467-6400 <br /> * Poison Control Center - (800) 342-9293 <br /> * Community Evacuation Contact - (209) 468-4400 <br /> 2 <br />
