(GSHI), a subsidiary of
Occidental Chemical Corporation (OCC), Geomatrix Consultants, Inc. (Geomatrix) submitted
the"Work Plan for Additional Groundwater Investigation" for the subject property. In a July
21, 1998, letter to GSHI, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board(RWQCB)
approved the Work Plan.
Since that time, Geomatrix and OCC's legal counsel (Landels, Ripley& Diamond) have been
working on access agreements with owners and tenants of properties that would be required to
conduct the additional groundwater investigation described in the Work Plan. One of the
necessary access agreements has been successfully negotiated. However, the remaining two
access agreements have not been completed with the property owners. Thomas D. Trapp of
Landels, Ripley & Diamond has transmitted proposed access agreements to the two remaining
property owners, and we are awaiting their response.
Until the access agreements are successfully negotiated, Geomatrix is unable to initiate the
additional groundwater investigation described in the Work Plan. When agreements are
completed, we will advise the RWQCB of our schedule for implementation of the Work Plan.
If you have questions concerning this letter, please call.
Sincerely yours,
GEOMATRIX CONSULTANTS, INC.
Timothy G.
