31 October 1996
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0190
Page.3 of 7
depths of 25 feet bsg, and completed as groundwater moriitoring wells(MW-1 through MW-4). Soil
boring logs from GeoAudit are included in Appendix B.
TPH-g was detected in one soil sample from boring B3 (MW2) at 130,ug/g (micrograriis per grain-
or parts per million: ppm): Total xylenes were detected in the same sample at 0.22 ppm. Other soil
samples analyzed did not contain petroleum hydrocarbons above detectable concentrations. The-
analytical
data from all soil samples collected are summarized on Table 1. A copy of the laboratory
report(AAL Batch number 93-0212-010)and chain-of-custody are included in Appendix C.
During the assessment, two pre-existing monitoring wells were discovered on.the property. One well
is located approximately-120 feet southeast of the former UST excavation; the second well was
to
located approximately 400 feet southwest of the former,UST excavation. Each well was measured
to be approximately 20 feet in depth. The wells were-arbitrarily designated by GAS as MW-5 and
` MW-6; respectively. The PHS-EHD had no record of drilling permits for MVV-5 and MW-6 and _
AGE-has-no information regarding the construction details of MW-5 and MW-6.
PHS-EHD files do indicate that a single 6,000-gallon diesel UST was removed from the site near
MW-5 in June of 1987 by Western Meter. The PHS-EHD has no record of analytical results from
` the removal of the 6,000-gallon diesel UST. Furthermore, the'PHS-EHD has no analytical results
of soil,or water samples from wells MW-5 or MW-6. In accordance with the request of the PHS-
°' EHD, well MW-5 was incorporated into the monitoring program at the:site.
3.2. SOIL COMPOSITION
Soil borings established at the site encountered sandy, silt, silty sand and sandy, clayey silt. Some
poorly graded sand was encountered at a depth of 25 feet-below surface grade (bsg).
m
3.3. GROUND WATER MONITORING
Between February 1993 and April 1996,the wells at the site have been monitored on five occasions.
Ground water samples were collected from the monitoring wells ori four occasions. The analytical
results of all ground water sampling events are summarized in Table 2 and Table 3. A copy of the
laboratory reports(AAL Batch numbers 94-0110-003,95-1101=011 and 96-0430-007).and chain-of-
custody forms are included in Appendix D.
Ground water on the site was encountered at depths of.12 to 18'fee-t bsg during the course of the site
L investigation, and between 8.42 and 16.54 feet below tops of:the well casings during monitoring
{ .- events. The flow direction calculated from data collected duringgethe monitoring events was north 60°
