 D
Scope of Work For 2,000 West Chatter Way, Stockton, California APR 16 1998
Start Date: Tuesday March 24, 1998
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Purpose: Soil and groundwater sampling and testing is planned to provide information in RgSAPES
decisions and provide background data for the site. This is a screening assessment only, and has
been designed to evaluate the potential impact to the site by leaking underground storage tanks
(LUSTS) and septic systems in the site vicinity. GEC has not identified a significant release of
petroleum or hazardous materials at the site.
Background: The site is located between two facilities with histories of LUST systems, i.e., New Holland
Tractor to the west and a former Purgro warehouse facility to the east. One groundwater
monitoring well, at the Puregro facility, has been identified within 150 feet of the site and is
shown on the attached figure. Records obtained from San Joaquin County indicate no septic
systems have been identified within 500 feet of the LUST on the property adjacent to the east;
and a septic system near the northeast comer of the Puregro facility is in excess of 150 feet of
the site. GEC understands that sewer service is not available to the site but, we have-not
identified documentation regarding the presence or location of a septic system at the site.
Scope: Direct push 4 soil borings to a depth just above the shallow groundwater collecting soil samples
at intervals of approximately 5 feet. On soil sample from each boring will be analyzed by a
California licensed analytical laboratory for petroleum hydrocarbons (EPA Method 8015M) and
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes(EPA Method 8020A).
Additionally two of the borings will be used to collect groundwater samples by direct push or
driven casing sampling methodology(e.g. Hydro-punch). This method will be used in order to
minimize the potential for cross-contamination between the unsaturated and saturated intervals.
Groundwater samples will be analyzed by a California licensed analytical laboratory for
petroleum hydrocarbons (EPA Method 8015K and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total
xylenes (EPA Method 602).
Soil and groundwater sampling, handling, and documentation of collection will be performed in
accordance with the GEC standard operating procedure(SOP)which is attached. The GEC SOP
is written for Hydro-putsch methods but will apply, other than dimensional specification, to the
actual method of direct push selected.
Borehole
locations: Selected locations are identified on the attached site map. These borehole locations may be
altered in the field based on review of data obtained during the site investigation. However the
borings will be drilled within the boundaries of the property identified as 2,000 West Charter
Way as shown on the attached Figure.
Destruction of
Boreholes: Upon completion of groundwater sampling activities, the testholes will be grouted from total
depth to surface through the outer casing of the drilling equipment.
Duration: The work is expected to require approximately 6 hours and should be completed prior to the end
of the work day, Tuesday March 18, 1998.
F:\HOME\SKAMINSK\Letters\98-OW5A.permit—scope.wpd
