As a results of the testing, approximately
3,000 gallons of groundwater was extracted from a well at the site and placed into a
temporary above-ground holding tank. The aquifer testing was performed as part of an on-
going groundwater investigation resulting from the former operation of underground storage
tanks (UST's) at the site. The site is now owned and operated by Geweke Land
Development and Marketing. A minimal amount of solids are in the tank.
On July 19, 1994, a water sample was collected from the holding tank. The sample was
transmitted under chain-of-custody procedure to McCampbell Analytical, Inc., a state-
certified environmental laboratory. The sample was analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline), volatile aromatics (BTE&X) and volatile halocarbons
(HVOC's) in accordance with approved EPA methods.
No TPH or BTE&X were detected in the water sample; Methylene Chloride was detected
at 0.70 ppb; Tetrachloroethene was detected at 1.5 ppb. No other target analytes were
detected.
It is our understanding that the State of California drinking water Maximum Contaminant
Level (MCL) for Tetrachloroethene (PCE) is 5 ppb; the Action Level (AL) for Methylene
Chloride is 40 ppb. Copies of the laboratory report and chains-of-custody are included.
Since the detected concentrations of HVOC's are well below the MCL's or AL's, GeoAudit
proposed to discharge water in the holding tank to the City of Lodi sanitary sewer.
