3.2 Blower Installation
In December of 1993, a low-pressure blower was installed at the site. The blower was
installed to provide a low-pressure air source to the remediation wells in preparation for
inoculation of the hydrocarbon-consuming bacteria. The blower is currently operating 24-
hours a day, except for shut-downs during routine maintenance.
3.2.1 Blower Type
The blower is an EG&G Rotron EN 404 Explosion-Proof Regenerative Blower and is
currently providing approximately 10 cubic feet per minute (cfm) of air to remediation wells
VW-1 through VW-7 and monitoring wells MW-3, MW-4, MW-5 and MW-14 (Figure 3).
3.2.2 Background CO2 and OZ
During January of 1994 data on background carbon dioxide and oxygen concentrations will
be collected from each well. Sampling ports were installed at or close to each well head. A
COZ OZ meter will be used to determine concentrations prior to inoculation of the bacteria.
CO2 and 02 data will be collected twice a week until a pre-inoculation trend is seen. After
a trend is determined, measurements will be collected on a weekly basis.
After inoculation of the bacteria, measurements will continue to be collected on a weekly
basis and presented in each Quarterly Report.
4.0 FINDINGS
4.1 Groundwater Gradient and Direction
The depth to first groundwater ranges from 57 feet north of the site to 59 feet southwest
of the site, indicating a two-foot rise in elevation since September of 1993. Figure 4 is a
groundwater gradient map, based upon the data collected on December 27, 1993.
Groundwater flow is south-southwest in the area.
4.2 Groundwater Contamination
TPH as gasoline was detected in samples from EW-1, MW-7, MW-10, MW-11 and MW-14
at concentrations of 810 ppb, 210 ppb, 450 ppb, 75 ppb and 820 ppb, respectively. Benzene
was detected in samples from EW-1, MW-10, MW-11 and MW-14 at concentrations of 37
ppb, 0.64 ppb, 7.1 ppb and 35 ppb, respectively.
Toluene was detected in samples from EW-1 and MW-14; ethylbenzene was detected in
samples from EW-1 and MW-14; and xylenes were detected in samples from EW-1, MW-7,
and MW-14. Ethylene dibromide was detected only in the sample from MW-14 (1.1 ppb).
ep.l&,.; '1- 9
L33A. O MOR
