. y wa ,'µ y •e'
17
BC Site Safety Officer: Ms. Lisa Acevedo
(916) 444-0123
Subcontractor(s): To be determined
The following emergency telephone numbers will be used to call for assistance:
All emergencies: 911
Doctors Hospital of Lodi: (209) 333-021I
All subcontractors are responsible for their own corporate health and safety program and
J the health and safcty of their own employees. A copy of their written program must be
submitted for review to BC if requested. The subcontractor's health and safety requirements
for !his project are specified by :his SSHP.
Hazard Analysis
They potential hazards to personnel working at the GLUM site have been id,:nti.fied as
chemical contamination, and physical hazards of working around heavy equipment. Each
potential hazard relative to the potential for exposure is described below.
Chemical Contamination. The chemical hazard related to this project is the possible
inhalation of or direct contact with gasoline from contaminated soil and groundwater. Gasoline
vapors (50 to 100 octane) are moderately to highly t_xic via inhalation and may cause eye
disturbances. Inhalation of gasoline vapors can cause central nervous system depression,
pneumonitis, fatal pulmonary edema (high concentrations).
Gasoline also poses fire and explosion hazards when present in sufficient concentrations
(percent by volume in air). In addition, gasoline can react vigorously with oxidizing materials
resulting in fire.
Table 3 presents exposure limits for key chemicals that may be present at the site.
Physical Hazards. The only on-site physical hazard is working around.heavy equipment.
While working at the site, the field personnel must be aware of heavy equipment movement
and general traffic, including drill rig operations. The location of the emergency shut-off
switch for the rig will be noted by each field person.
Training Requirements
All BC staff working on site have completed training in hazard recognition and basic
health and safety issues as required by the Occupational Safety and Health regulations
contained in 29 CFR 1910.120 (e). In addition, each employee will be familiar with the
requirements of this SSHP, and will participate in safety briefings.
EWA= •.aw
