CHAPTER 4
FIELD AND ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Tlris chapter presents the field and analytical results of the Geweke Land Development and
Marketing (GLDM) property at 16 South Cherokee Lane, Lodi, California. The soil and
groundwater samples collected daring this investigation were analyzed at Brown and Caldwell..
Analytical Laboratory,in Emeryville,California(certified by the California Department of Health
Services).
9
i..
Soil Results
x•
.r
i
{
The soil samples collected from MW-7 and MW-8 (six samples) daring this investigation
were inadvertently held 2 to 4 days beyond the recommended holding time of 14 days prior to
analysis by the laboratory. The samples were submitted to the laboratory within two days of
collection, therefore the holding time expired when the samples were in a c.ntrolied laboratory
4
environment. The recommended holding time for this type of analysis is 14 days according to
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Manual No. SW-846 and Part 40, Code of Federal
Regulations, Section 136.3. As a result of this, the data presented in this section for these soil
.amples will only be used as a qualitative indicator for the presence of hydrocarbons.
Soil samples collected from the boreholes were screened in the field for organic vapors
using a photo ionization detector (PID). Table 4-1 presents organic vapor field readings
according to d:e depth of the sample. The samples were placed in a plastic resealable bag and
allowed to volatilize into the remaining headspace in the bag. The PID was used to measure
organic vapors in the headspace of the plastic bag.
i
t
