4-3
Soil samples collected from the boreholes were analyzed for benzene, ethyibenzene, toluene,
and xylene (BETX),and total petro%um hydrocarbons(TPH),using the EPA Method 8015 with
extraction by EPA Method 5030. Table 4-2 presents a surnr a:y of the analytical results of the
soil samples from this as well as previous investigations at this site. The laboratory report for
the soil analysis are presented in Appendix E. Only the sample analysis from this investigation
will be discussed in this section of the report. The sample analyses from all of the soil samples
A are considered in the conclusions.
Soil BETX Results. Three soil samples were collected from each of the four boreholes
(MW-6 through MW-9) for laboratory analysis. All three of thM soil samples collected from
MW-6 contained identifiable concentrations of benzene and xylene, and two of the samples(fronj
40 and 50 feet) contained identifiable concentrations of toluene based on a laboratory detection
limit of 0.1 milligrams per kilogram(mg/kg). The BETX concentrations from this borehole-v2re
well below the maximum contaminant levels (MCLS) for the protection of groundwater as
" erablished by the Califoniia Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region in
y! " April 1987 (see Table 4-2).
,. None of the soil samples analyzed from MW-7 contained identifiable concentrations of
' BETX. Of the three samples collected from MW-8, only the sample from 50 feet contained
w identifiable BETX concentrations. The sample from 50 feet contained 0.2 mg/kg ethylbenzene
and 0.6 mg/kg xylene which air; both below the designated level for these constituents.
The soil samples analyzed tiom MW-9 did not contain identifiable concentrations of
benzene. The sample from 30 feu.t contained concentrations of ethylbenzene and xylene that were
below the designated Ievels. The sample from 50 feet contained 5.3 mg/kg ethylbenzene, 2.1
mg/kg toluene, and 2.1 mg/kg xylene which are all also below designated levels.
Soil TPH Results. None of the samples analyzed from monitoring wells MW-6 or MW-7
contained identifiable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons based on a labor:tory detection
j
