PES Environmental, Ine.
E Mr. Jeff Wemer
February 12, 1991
Fage 3
ppm TPH as gasoline, 4.15 ppm benzene, 0.072 ppm toluene, 0.16 ppm ethylbenzene, and
F
0.19 ppm fylenes).
In August 1990, the RWQCB requested that further investigation be performed to determine "
the extent of petroleum hydrocarbon affected groundwater and that work continue on the
E_+ initial design phase of a remediation plan. In October L990, a work plan that was prepared
by B&C to address these requests was submitted to the RWQCB. The work plan proposed
j to: (1)dispose of stockpiled soil, (2)implement a quarterly groundwater monitoring and
reporting program, (3)design an interim groundwater treatment system, (4) install and
startup a groundwzmr treatment system, and (5) install and develop four additional
metitoring wel a, In January 1991, the RWQCB approved this work plan and requested that 4
the preliminary design plans for the proposed interim grour,:iwater remediation system and a
time schedule be submitted by February 15, 1991. This work plan addresses items 2 through
5
t SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of work presented in our work plan is designed to assess the lateral extent of
petroleum-hydrocarbon affected groundwater and to evaluate interim groundwater remedial
alternatives. PES proposes to conduct this work in five tasks: (1) collect, tabulate, and !
review existing data, (2) prepare well installation permit applications, obtain access
t. agreements, and prepare sampling/safety plan, (3)drill boMhodes, sample soils, install,
.t develop, and sample four monitoring wells and one extraction well, and perform an aquifer
test, (4) perthrTn a detailed evaluation of groundwater remediation alternatives, and (5)
interpret existing data and prepare report summarizing findings.
t
Task 1 Dat9 Collection and Roview
t
g To better understand subsurface conditions in the area of the former Gas-N-Save service
station, PFS proposes to obtain and further evaluate data from the GLDM and nearby
k properties, inc!uding the Beacon Station at 35 North Cherokee Lane and Rose Marie Realty i
s World at 1 North Cherokee Lane(Plate 1). Information on the chemical use history and any
environmental investigations at the Beacon Station and Realty World sites should be available
r at the SJEHD and/or the RWQCB. PM will tabulate and review data on the subsurface soil
't conditions, well completion details, soil and groundwater chemistry analyses• groundwater
elevations, groundwater flow directions, and contaminant distrioutions. The findings from
the review of existing data will be used to refine the location of additional monitoring wells.
s In addition, these data will aid in the definition of potential offsite sources of petroleum
hvdrocarbons that may have affected groundwater in the vicinity of the GLDM site.
awvryt-.P.,.vs
