February 12, 1991
PagC
Groundwater extracted during development and sampling will be stored onsite until chemical
t results are obtained from the analytical laboratory. Offsite disposal of extracted groundwater r
at a hazardous waste disposal facility may be required.
Prior to development or sampling activities in may well, groundwater elevations will be
measured for documenting the direction and gradient of groundwater flow in the upper
` ll be measured using an oillwater interface probe or
a4uifer zone. Extraction Weill Aquifer Testing and Sampling
a
s This subtaslc inco!ves pumping the extraction well and collecting water samples and well
performance data under pumping conditions. The data obtained from this test will be used in
r the detailed evaluation of remedial alternatives and the preliminary design of tt:u n
extractic
and treatment systems. Results from groundwater samples will be.used to assess the
potential of treatmentlex'aactior, system fouling due to scaling, metal precipitation or
biological growth. The pumping well performance data will provide information, regarding
atreatment system and extraction system sizing. The aquifer test will be performed as
follows:
The extraction well will be pumped at four different rates for approximately one hour
at each flow rate. The pumping rate will be increased with each subsequent step of
1n the final stip, the
extraction well will be pumped far about 2 to 4 hours
pumping. data at the highest flow rate. After pumping has
to obtain longer term pumping
stopped, the recovery of water levels will be monitored.
(. • During the aquifer test, water-level data will be collected at equal time intervals by a
pressure transducer in the extraction well and electronically stored in a datalogger. In
l , order to determine the lateral influence of pumping on the groundwaser. a pressure
I
transducer will also be placed in a nearby monitoring well to gather water-level data
during the test. PES will make penodic manual water-level measurcments to calibrate
s the transducer readings.
• The following temporary equipment setup will be required to conduct the test:fie well
placing a submersible pump in the well; and 1<} piping discharge
uire disposal or treatmrzt at an
to a storage tank. The stored discharge water will req
appropriate facility.
a The following analyses will be performed on two samples collected during the aquifer
test: (1) Title 22 Drinking Water Analysis, t') total and fecal coliform: and (3) 'T'PH
as gasoline benzene. toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (EPA Method 801518020);
R and (4)TPH as diesel (EPA Method 8015).
ceavert-,rp.+y5 -
i
1 -
