The elevation of new and existing
wells will be determined by a California state-certified surveyor. Depth to water will be
measured with an oil/water interface probe relative to the surveyed elevation marked at the well's
top of casing.
QUALITY ASSURANCE PLAN
The procedures of the quality assurance plan for sample collection, identification, handling,
f and analysis are described below.
Sample Collection and Hxndfing
r.. Proper collection and handling are essential to ensure the quality of the sample. All samples
will be collected by experienced field personnel using suitable containers, which have been
precleaned at the laboratory. The containers will be clearly [narked and dated for identification.
All samples will be cooled and stored foe analysis no longer than the maximum allowable
holding time.
.s
r'
Sample Identification and Chain-of-Custody Procedures
These precedures ensure sample integrity and document sample possession from the time
of collection to its ultimate disposal. Each sample container submitted for analysis will have a
Iabel affixed to identify the job number, sampler, date of sample collection, and a sample number
unique to that sample. This information. in addition to a description of the sample, field
measurements, sampling methodology, names of sampling personnel, and other pertinent Feld
observations, will be recorded on the borehole log or in the field records.
A chain-of-custody form(Figure 5)will be used to document possession of the sample from
time of collection to its arrival at the labor ltory. The sample control officer at the laboratory
_- w..; verify sample`integriry and confirm that it was collected in the proper container, preserved
com, tly, and that there is an adequate volume for analysis. If these conditions are met, the
sample will be assigned a unique log number for identification throughout analysis and reporting.
The log number will be recorded on the chain-of-custody form and in the legally required log
book maintained at the laboratory. The sample description, date received, client's name, and
other relevant.information will also be recorded.
Decontamination Procedures
To prevent cross-contamination,downhole drilling equipment will be steam-cleaned befbn.
use in each borehole. Soil sampling equipment and all pumps, bailers, and their related tubing
will be washed with laboratory-grade detergent and rinsed with tap water, then deicnized water,
before sampling and development work.
