The subcontractor's health and safety requirements for
i this project are specified by this SSHP.
Hazard Analysis
The potential hazards to personnel working at the GLDM site have been identified as
chemical contamination, and physical hazards of working around heavy equipment. Each
potential hazard relative to the potential for exposure is described below.
x Chemical Contamination. The chemical hazard related to this project is the possible
T inhalation of or direct contact with gasoline from contaminated soil and groundwater. Gasoline
vapors (50 to 100 octane) are moderately to highly toxic via inhalation and may cause eye
disturbances. Inhalation, of gasoline vapors can cause central nervous system depression,
pneumoniu . fatal p6monary edema (high concentrations).
Gasoline poses fire and explosion hazards when present in sufficient concentrations
(percent by volume in air). In addition, gasoline can react vigorously with oxidizing materials
resulting in fire.
Tattle 3 preseris exposure limits for key chemicals that may be present at the site.
Physical Ha'mrds. The only on-site physical hazard is wo.kin,g around heavy equipment.
While working at the site, the field personnel must be aware of heavy equipment movement and
general traffic, including drill rig operations. The location of the emergency shut-off switch for
the rig will be noted vy each field person.
i
