were included in the amended FRP submitted by GeoAudit in July of
1993 . The locations of all wells are illustrated in Figures 2 and
' 3 .
Between May of 1990 and June of 1993, several consulting firms,
including Sun Tech Environmental, Inc. , performed quarterly
' groundwater monitoring at the site. GeoAudit has recently been
retained to perform quarterly monitoring at the site in accordance
with the C & A order.
' In accordance with the FRP, three additional remediation wells were
also installed by GeoAudit in October of 1993 . The results of the
' third quarter monitoring and the data obtained from the
installation of remedial wells VW-5, VW-6, and VW-7, are presented
in this report.
1
3 . 0 PROCEDURES
' 3. 1 Groundwater Monitoring
On September 27, 1993 , representatives of GeoAudit visited the site
to perform quarterly monitoring procedures. Water depths were
measured in all wells. Water was purged and groundwater samples
were collected from eight wells, in accordance with quarterly
' monitoring protocols.
3. 1. 1 Monitoring Well Purge procedures
' A colonist water level meter was used to measure the groundwater
depth in each monitoring well (Table 1) . The seven monitoring wells
(MW--6 through MW-14) were then purged of between 4 and 10 gallons
' using a 2" submersible pump. The extraction well was purged of 60
gallons. Temperature, pH and conductivity of the purge water were
measured at 2-gallon intervals (10-gallon intervals for EW-1) using
' Orion pH, temperature and conductivity meters (Table 2) . The water
was stored in DOT-approved drums and stored on-site.
3. 1.2 Groundwater Sampling
1 Water samples were collected from the eight wells using a clean,
disposable plastic bailer. The samples were collected in 40-m1 EPA
vials and 1-liter amber bottles. The samples were transported in a
chilled container to McCambell Analytical in Pacheco and analyzed
for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gasoline) , volatile
aromatics (BTE&X) , volatile halocarbons, lead (Pb) and ethylene
' dibromide (EDB) in accordance with EPA methods 8015, 602, 601, 7420
(239 . 2) and 601, respectively.
' 3
