l
Project 00760.02 ;
11 February 1991
accumulator/water knockout device. The
combustor unit and
accumulator/water knockout device were placed within a protective fenced
enclosure. The combustor unit was designed to destroy by combustion
hydrocarbon gases in the extracted soil gases before gases are discharged
into the atmosphere. After permitting through the, San Joaquin County Air
Pollution Control District, the system equipment was delivered to the
site, installed on an equipment pad, and lconnected to the extraction
system already in place. A propane trap wagon that served as a
supplemental fuel source was kept in thel enclosure with the system
equipment. A site plan of the extraction system and system equipment is
presented in Figure 1.
1
OPERATION, MAINTENANCE AND MONITORING
'i
The combustor unit was designed to operate. continuously 24 hours a day.
EVAX personnel periodically monitored the vapor extraction and
remediation system. Monitoring included analyses of the influent to
document the progress of the remediation.'' In addition, compliance
sampling of the exhaust stream to the atmosphere was conducted to ensure
the system operated within permitted emission guidelines. The extraction
points were also monitored. Extraction at an individual well or probe
was discontinued when hydrocarbon vapor concentration was reduced in the
vicinity of that well or probe. j
i
EVAX recommends that a copy of this report ',jbe submitted to Ms. Laurie A.
Cotulla of the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental
Health Division.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call .
Sincerely,
EVAX Technologies, Inc.
ei i
P
Christopher J.
