Beacon oil Company
525 West Third Street
Hanford, California 93230
Subject: Report of quarterly ground--water monitoring at Beacon
Station No. 1-302, 35 North Cherokee Lane, Lodi,
California.
Mr. Epperson:
A geologist from our office visited the site referenced above on
January 14 and 15, 1988 to purge and sample five ground-water
monitoring wells. The work was implemented at the request of
Beacon oil Company as part of our ongoing environmental
investigation.
The site is located on the southwest corner of the .intersection
of North Cherokee Lane and Elm Street in Lodi, California. The
Site Vicinity Map, Plate P-1, shows the location of the station.
Applied Geos stems
Y previously installed two 2-inch-diameter and
three 4-inch-diameter ground-water monitoring wells (AGS Report
No. 8691-6, dated April 22, 1987) . The locations of the wells
relative to site facilities are depicted on the Generalized Site
Plan, Plate P-2. Previous work summarized in our Work Plan (AGS
Report No. 8691-6, dated May 26, 1987) , indicated that the soil
in the area immediately adjacent to and below the tank cavity is
contaminated with hydrocarbons.
Depth-to-ground-water measurements were taken in the monitoring
wells prior to purging and sampling. Access to well MW-3 could
not be gained, however, so data from that well are not available.
Water-level data (Table 1) indicate that the ground-water surface
has dropped approximately 3.56 feet since the previous sampling
event, and that _the
--ground-water--gradient-had-retained a - — -
sou westerly orientation (S20'w) and magnitude (0.4 vertical
feet per loo feet horizontally) similar to those observed in
previous sampling events (Plate P-2) ,
