The site is located on the southwest cornea
of the intersection of North Cherokee Lane and Elm Street in Lodi
as shown on the Site Vicinity Map (Plate P-1) . This work was
performed as part of an ongoing environmental investigation
outlined in Applied GeoSystems' Work Plan No. 86091-3, .4ated
November 7, 1986.
Several previous environmental investigations have been performed
at this site. At the request of Beacon, Applied Geosystems
conducted an initial Subsurface Environmental Investigation (AGS
Report No. 86091--3, dated October 28, 1986) at the site in
response to a failed precision leak test of a 10,000-gallon tank
formerly used to store dic-sel and gasoline. That tank was
replaced in September 1986; two 10,000-gallon gasoline tanks were
lined and remained in place. During a subsequent investigation,
Applied GeoSystems installed four ground-water monitoring wells
(MW-1 through MW-4) at the site, and selected soil and ground-
` water samples were analyzed for hydrocarbon contamination (AGS
Report No. 86091-3, dated November 7, 1986) . Laboratory analyses
of soil samples indicated that hydrocarbon contamination was
linited to the area immediately adjacent to and below the tank
cavity. . Laboratory analyses_of_-ground.--water-samples---indicated--------
rocar on cofifiijznation exceeded action levels recommended by
state and local regulatory agencies. Irl March 1987, an
additional Monitoring well (MW-5) was installed downgradient to
✓ further evaluate the extent of the contamination (AGS Report No.
86091-6, dated April 22, •1987) . At Beacon's request, Applied
-f GeoSystems began quarterly monitoring of the ground water in the
