36 N. Cherokee Lane, Lodi, - Executive Summary for IRP
involves reinstating remediation through this existing system with no new
underground construction. Extracted vapors will be abated with a
catalytic incinerator rather than the internal combustion ergine used
originally.
The vapor streams extraetejit=rm the individual wells will be piped to a
central manifold where they will be combined into a single air stream
contained in a single pipe. The combined air stream will then be
directed to a catalytic incinerator where the vapors will be destroyed
prior to discharge into the atmosphere. The vacuum pump to be used for
this operation has a vacuum extraction caracity of 100 standard cubic
feet per minute.
The trend-setting Bay Area Air Quality Management District considers
vapor destruction through catalytic incineration to be one of the best
ways to control emissions from vapor extraction systems.
A conservative risk assessment of the benzene emissions from the
incinerator determined that the maximum output from the system would be
well within acceptable regulatory limits. The assessment was conducted
'ye in accord with
procedures established by the California Air Pollution
•- Control Officer's Association.
EVAX has applied to the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control
District, for the necessary permits to operate the system in June 1991 and
received approval for ar. Authority to Construct in January 1992. The
system will be periodieairy owr,"Oted to assess compliance with permitted
operating conditions and to evaluate the progress of remediation. The
system will operate continuously for a period of approximately one year
or less.
- ii
