■Y01 INC-
The sampler will be washed with a non-phosphate cleaner and double rinsed with water after each use.
Auger flights will be steam cleaned after drilling each borehole. This will assure that contamination is
not transferred to other boreholes. The cleaning will I ake place on established cleaning sites and the
effluent will be contained.
Uncontaminated boreholes (as determined by OVM filed tests)will be backfilled with the same
material or cuttings extracted from the hole during drilling after placing five feet of bentonite in the
bottom of the hole. Boreholes found to have contami iiated soil will be backfilled with a cement and
sand slurry containing no more than five percent bentonite. The cuttings from these holes will be
placed in United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA)-approved, 55-gallon barrels with
lids, stored onsite pending laboratory analysis and disposed of at an approved facility if necessary,
with the appropriate chain-of-custody documents. W thin 30 days, a mitigation report will be
submitted to the Department of Environmental Health Services which will include three remediation
methods. The report will be signed by a Registered eulogist or a Registered Civil Engineer.
3.2 Soil Sampling from Excavation
The soil sampling.probe for a two-inch drive sampler will be used to collect undisturbed samples from
the trench floor or sidewalls. If possible, undisturbed samples will be obtained from the excavator
bucket as appropriate.
Upon recovery, two sample tubes, designated A and 13, will be sealed by covering with aluminum foil,
capping with plastic and sealing with cloth tape. This sample recovery method minimizes head space
in the sample tubes. The samples will then be stored on ice pending delivery to a certified laboratory
for chemical analysis and accompanied by appropria chain-of-custody documents. Sample
descriptions will include lithology, moisture content, fossil content and odor. Samples will also be
checked with an OVM. Lithologic logs for each excavation will be compiled utilizing the sample
descriptions.
08420010.001 3
