Work Plan for Additional Site Assessment •
ARCO Facility No. 6100
Tracy,California
Page 5
SOIL BORINGS -Assessment of Oxygenates in the Vicinity of the USTs and Fuel
Dispensers
Delta proposes to advance two onsite soil borings (13-39 and B-40) to depths of
approximately 100 feet bgs. Information gathered from these two soil borings, as well as
boring B-38 described above, will be used to evaluate the extent of oxygenates,
specifically MTBE, in the vicinity of the USTs and fuel dispensers. The proposed
locations and boring depth is based on the distribution of petroleum hydrocarbons
beneath the site, as identified during previous investigations. The proposed locations are
presented on Figure 2. The borings will be advanced by a drilling rig equipped with
hollow stem augers. Soil samples will be collected every five feet for soil classification
and laboratory analyses. If soil is encountered that appears to be permeable, a
Hydropunch sampler will be used to retrieve a representative water sample for laboratory
analysis.
SCOPE OF WORK
The following scope of work has been subdivided into tasks 1 through 5. All geologic
work will be conducted under the direct supervision of a State of California Registered
Geologist and will be conducted in accordance with standards established by the Tri-
Regional Board Guidelines for Hydrocarbon Site Assessment and Remediation (RWQCB
1991).
Task 1: Pre-field Activities
Following approval of the work plan,Delta will implement the following activities:
• Obtain an access agreement from the owner of the property south of the ARCO
facility,
• Obtain well installation permits from San Joaquin County PHS/EHD,
• Retain and schedule a licensed drilling contractor,
• Update the site Health and Safety Plan,
• Mark the drilling locations and contact Underground Service Alert to locate
underground utilities in the area,
• Notify ARCO, San Joaquin County PHS/EHD, and the owner of the offsite
property, of the work schedule.
CdARC0\6100\REPORTS\6100 workplan 05-22-01.do
