VERTEX will arrange with San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department staff to observe the grouting procedure at the site to ensure that this work is
performed to their satisfaction.
Decontamination of equipment will be performed to reduce the potential for transport of
contaminants off-site and between work areas. Decontamination of drilling equipment and
monitoring well materials will occur if necessary, at the designated decontamination station.
Any parts of the drill rig that are encrusted with dirt or mud or are suspected of having been
splashed with materials at a sampling station will be washed with high pressure water and steam
prior to moving to the next borehole location. Drill rigs may be protectcd with plastic sheeting to
minimize contamination of major body parts. The drilling and sampling equipment will be
washed with Alconox and water, then rinsed with clean water. New disposable bailers or Teflon
tubing will, be used at each sampling location. Decontamination water will be, containerized and
disposed of in an environmentally safe manner.
A total of four (4) groundwater samples will be collected and submitted to a DHS-certified
laboratory using chain-of-custody protocol. In addition, for quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) one trip blank will be prepared and. submitted to the Laboratory using chain-of-custody
protocol. The laboratory will analyze all. samples for the following parameters:
• VOC's by EPA Method 8260, including Fuel Oxygenates
Water sample analysis will undergo formal QA/QC data validation at the laboratory to ensure
that data are of acceptable quality.
SunStar Laboratories, Inc. of Tustin, California is scheduled to analyze all groundwater, and
QA/QC samples. The turnaround time from sample collection to the submission of analytical
results is expected to be approximately 24-hours, The slipping address for SunStar Laboratories
is presented below:
SunStar.La.boratories,Inc.
3002 Dow Avenue, Suite 406
Tustin,Califomia 92780
The samples will be collected into pre-cleaned certified containers. SunStar Laboratories will
provide these containers and appropriate preservatives. Sample containers will be ICHEM 200
series or equivalent. Samples will be placed immediately after collection into coolers for storage
and shipment. At least two bags of ice, sealed in double plastic bags (or packets of blue ice)will
4
