UST removal activities were conducted under permit from San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department(SJCEHD). Soil over-excavation was performed as described in the over-excavation
workplan dated August 6,2002. Copies of the permit and workplan are included in Attachment A.
SITE BACKGROUND
The site is located at 221 South Cherokee Lane in Lodi, California (Figure 1). The site was formerly
operated as an ARCO service station with an AM/PM mini-mart. The site is bounded by an alley to the
north, Lodi Avenue to the south, a residential area to the west, and Cherokee Lane to the east. As part
of divestment activities, all USTs, dispensers, and associated piping were removed from the site during
the week of August 19,2002.
' UST REMOVAL ACTIVITES
Removal of four gasoline USTs, gasoline dispensers, and associated piping was performed by K.E.
Curtis Construction Company of Lathrop, California, during the period of August 15, 2002, through
August 20, 2002. The USTs consisted of four 10,000-gallon capacity fiberglass tanks. The excavated
USTs appeared to be in good condition, with no apparent holes or cracks visually noted during removal.
However, soil staining and a strong petroleum odor were observed in the northeast corner of the UST
excavation. The removed USTs and product piping were transported to Norcal Waste Systems Pacheco
Pass Landfill in Gilroy, California, for proper disposal. Excavation and sampling activities were
' observed and approved by Mr.Dennis Catanyag and Ms.Margaret Lagorio of the SJCEHD.
URS Corporation
' Crown Corporate Center
2870 Gateway Oaks Drive,Suite 300
Sacramento,CA 95833
Tel:916.679.2000
Fax:916.679.2900
' K:V5 BP ARCO\00760\UST RemovahUST removal report.doc
