Subsurface Environmental investigation November 29, 1988
ARCO Service Station 76U, Lodi, California AGS 38048-1
constituents benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylene
isomers by EPA Method 8020, and gravimetric waste oil as
petroleum oil by EPA method 503e. The sample was analyzed for
chlorinated halocarbons by EPA Method 8010, polychlorinated
biphenyls (PCB's) and the heavy metals chromium and lead, by
Sequoia LaboratoriesofRedwood City, California. These analyses
were requested by the San Joaquin Local Health District.
Results of laboratory analyses are shown below in Table 1. The
data indicates that hydrocarbon contamination of the soil is
present in the pit below the former location of the waste-oil
storage tank. The sample analyzed contained 1, 600 parts per
million (ppm) waste oil, 530 ppm total petroleum hydrocarbons as
diesel, 29 parts per million total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline, and 0. 69 ppm 1, 2 dichlorobenzene. PCB's were not
detected by the analytical laboratory. Concentrations of heavy
metals in the sample analyzed were below action levels set by the
California Department of Health Services for chromium and exceed
those
D
5
Applied Geosysteins
