The tube will be labeled and
immediately placed on ice for transport to the laboratory. Chain of Custody Records will
be maintained throughout delivery to the laboratory.
Soil samples will be collected from the stockpiled soil to evaluate treatment and disposal
options. Four soil samples will be collected for every 50 cubic yards of stockpiled soil.
Each group of four samples will be composited into one sample by the laboratory. Soil
samples will be collected in clean brass tubes from approximately 6 inches below the surface
of the stockpiles.
1'nstallation of nductar 'n
After excavating, if results of laboratory analyses indicate soil samples collected from the
r base of either gasoline tank excavation contain hydrocarbons in concentrations that warrant
remediation, a maximum of six conductor casings, two between each tank, will be installed
from the base of the tanks to the ground surface. The conductor casing will be driven
approximately 2 feet into native soil and then surrounded by clean pea gravel backfill.
Twelve-inch-diameter polyvinyl chloride pipe will be used for conductor casing. The
conductor casing will allow soil borings to be drilled between the new tanks to continue
further investigation of soil conditions beneath the tanks. Vapor-recovery wells could be
installed in these borings if remediation of soil is warranted.
l
LABORNrORY ANALYSES
Soil samples collected from the bottom of the existing and proposed gasoline tank cavities
will be submitted to a State-certified laboratory for analysis of TPHg by Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) preparation Method 5030 and modified EPA Method 8015 and
w
17
w
Applied Geo SlbrlenyS
