Lodi, California
' Dear Mr Christie
' At the request of ARCO Products Company (ARCO), EMCON Associates (EMCON) and others are
conducting an environmental investigation at the subject site (see Figure 1) We,, have prepared this
' status report on the work conducted during the thud quarter 1994
' BACKGROUND
In September 1988, RESNA Industries([RESNA] formerly Applied Geosystems)observed removal of
an underground waste oil storage tank located to the East of the station building In June and July
1991, RESNA observed removal of three gasoline storage tanks and associated product piping and
two additional waste-oil tanks Analytical results indicated hydrocarbons were present at the limits of
the former underground gasoline tank and waste-oil tank cavities (RESNA, June 25, 1991
Report 38048-4)
Between May 1990 and January 1994, RESNA investigated the impact of hydrocarbons to soil
beneath and just north of the site and dissolved hydrocarbons beneath the site A total of twenty-two
' soil borings were dried on site and two soil borings were drilled off site, three monitoring wells, ten
vapor extraction and one off-site vapor extraction wells were installed at the site. Boring locations and
well locations are presented in Figure 2 Residual gasoline and diesel hydrocarbons were detected in
' soil beneath the site (RESNA. January 7, 1993, Report 38048-7 and RESNA, June 8, 1994,
Report 38048-11) Dissolved hydrocarbons as gasoline were detected in all monitoring wells.
However, dissolved hydrocarbons as diesel and oil and grease were below laboratory detection limits.
A vapor extraction test was conducted on June 14, 1991, results indicated that vapor extraction is a
feasible method of remediating soil at the site. An effective radius of influence of 22 feet was estimated
' for the site(RESNA, April 7, 1992, Report 38048-5)
I
GROUNDWATER MONITORING. THIRD QUARTER 1994
Groundwater Technology, Inc , (GTT) of Concord, California, was contracted by ARCO to conduct
the field work at the site, GTT subsequently forwarded their field notes and the laboratory reports to
EMCON Field work included measunne depths to water and collecting groundwater samples for
SAC/PJ"805W05 1420 IAS-94/1fc 4
