fflsaruAM
WEA
Working to Restore Nature
On January 26, 1994, our geologist collected soil samples (one composite of four samples)
from the stockpiled cuttings for analyses to evaluate disposal options. At ARCO's request,
on February 10, 1994, drill cuttings were transported by Dillard Trucking of Byron,
California, to the BFI-Keller Canyon landfill in Pittsburg, California, for disposal. A copy
of Dillard's letter confirming soil disposal is attached in Appendix B
i
Laboratory Methods and Results
Select soil samples from the borings were analyzed for total purgeable hydrocarbons
(equivalent to total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline [TPHg]) with benzene, toluene,
► ethylbenzene, and total xylene isomers (BTEX) distinction using Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) Methods 5030/8015/8020, total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons
(equivalent to total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel [TPHd]) using EPA Method
3550/8015, and total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons (reported as oil and grease
[O&G]) using Standard Method 5520D&F The composited soil sample was analyzed for
TPHg, TPHd, and BTEX using methods previously stated and total lead, corrosivity,
ignitability, and reactivity Samples were analyzed at Sequoia Analytical in Sacramento,
California (California Department of Health Services Hazardous Waste Testing Laboratory
Certification 1624) Copies of the Chain of Custody Records and laboratory analysis reports
are attached
. Results of analyses indicated TPHg, TPHd, BTEX, and O&G were not detected in soil
samples from boring B-21 (near the southwest property boundary) or in boring B-24 (near
the northeast property boundary) with the exception of 72 parts per million (ppm) O&G
detected in the sample from 215 feet bsg from boring B-24 Boring B-22, drilled near the
former tanks, contained TPHg at 110 and 160 ppm, TPHd at 9 4 and 140 ppm, and O&G
at 78 to 140 ppm. Boring B-23, drilled near the former waste-oil tank, contained 440 ppm
TPHg, and 4 0 and 1,800 ppm TPHd, and 180 and 500 ppm These results are shown on
Table 1
1 GROUNDWATER MONITORING: FIRST QUARTER 1994
Groundwater Technology, Inc (GTI) of Concord, Califorma, was contracted by ARCO to
conduct the field work at the site, GTT subsequently forwarded their field notes and the
laboratory reports to RESNA Field work included measuring depths to water and
1 collecting groundwater samples for subjective and laboratory analyses RESNA used these
data to evaluate the direction and gradient of groundwater flow beneath the site The
locations of the monitoring wells are shown on Plate 2
1
i0319ccar/3 W-11 3
1f
