`' -PUBLIC I ALTH *4...N.
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor - Stockton, CA 95202
209/468-3420 OU _
EXECUTIVE OFFICER
CENTRAL VALLEY REGIONAL
WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD SEP 0 8 1
3443 ROUTIER RD STE A
SACRAMENTO CA 95827-3098
RE: BEACON STATION #695 SITE CODE: 1841
900 S CHEROKEE LANE E
LODI CA
f
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division
(PHS/EHD) discussed this site at our Technical Review Committee meeting on
January 6, 1997. At that meeting it was decided that the diesel plume in the
groundwater should be delineated and that it may be able to be accomplished by
additional sampling of some of the monitoring wells. Analysis for methyl tertiary
butyl ether was also to be conducted. In addition, information regarding the ,
z waste oil tank removed in November 1986 was to be submitted and confusion _
regarding monitoring wells MW 25 and MW 27 was to be cleared up.
Depth to water measurements and sampling of some of the monitoring wells
occurred in February and May 1997. Depth to water during those sampling
events was similar to that in March and June 1996. Water sample results from
February and May 1997 for benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, xylene, and total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline are similar to those evidenced in March and
June 1996. Methyl tertiary butyl ether was not detected in the groundwater
samples analyzed for this oxygenate.
F Results of the soil sample collected beneath the waste oil tank removed in
November 1986 have been submitted and no contamination was evidenced.
Clarification of the monitoring wells identified as MW 25 and MW 27 was
provided in a June 27, 1997 letter from Ultramar. In addition, mass balance
calculations for diesel in the soil before and after remediation have been
provided.
r
Therefore, our agency has determined that the site investigation and remedial
s action required for the site have been completed. A site history memo dated
January 29, 1997 has been prepared by your staff. Enclosed is a "Case Closure
Summary" for the site which is to be forwarded to you according to our Local
Oversight Program contract with the State Water Resources Control Board.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
