R.9; C 01
a -
an
EVAX Project 2260-03 6 May 1991
M sealed with Teflon lined caps, labeled W-MW25-4/3/91, and placed in iced
storage.
. . Laboratory Analyses
A chain of custody record was initiated in the field for soil and water
samples chosen for laboratory analysis. A total of 5 samples from the
boring of MW-?5 were analyzed; Samples S-25-20.5, S-25-25.5, S-25-40.5,
S-25-45.5, and S-25-60.5 represented soils sampled at depths of 20.5,
25.5, 40.5, 45.5, and 60.5 feet below ground surface, respectively. A
total of 4 samples from the boring of VW-26 were analyzed; Samples S-26-
30.5, S-26-40.5, S-26-50.5, and S-26-60.5 represented soils sampled at
depths of 30.5, 46.5, 50.5, and 60.5 feet below ground surface,
respectively.
- The 9 soil samples were submitted to Applied Analytical Environmental
Laboratories (state certificate No. 1211) of Fremont, California.
Samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (low
;4 to medium boiling point hydrocarbons, TPHg) by Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) Methods 5030/modified 8015; and benzene (B), toluene (T),
ethylbenzene (E), and total xylenes (X) by EPA Methods 5030/8020. Water
Sample W-MW25-4/3/91 was analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as
diesel (high boiling point hydrocarbons, TPHd) by EPA Methods
t. 5030/modified 8015; TPHg by EPA Methods 3510/modified 8015; and BTEX by
. EPA Methods 5030/602. Chain of custody records and laboratory analyses
reports are in Appendix C.
j Soil Cuttings and Purged Water -
Soil cuttings from the borings were enclosO by plastic sheeting and left
on-site. Water from steam cleaning of ' augers and other drilling
{ i equipment was placed in a 55-gallon capacitysteel drum. Water purged
' from MW-25 during well development and sampling was also placed in steel
drums. EVAX understands that Ultramar will he responsible for the
removal of these materials from the site.
INVESTIGATION RESULTS
Soil Profile
The borings transected an assemblage of intercalated sandy silt, silty ►
sand, and sand (refer to the logs of borings, Appendix B). A color
-- -- --- --- -
---change--from-brown-greento-orange-brown--was- observed---in-the-soils_-at-a____ .
depth of approximately 60.feet. The color change may correspond to a
downward transition into more oxidized conditions with proximity to the
shallow groundwater. Groundwater level in MW-25 was at a depth of 66
feet below ground surface.
.. - 4
