Additional Soil and Grou Nater Investigation Report
California Central Traction Cc Mpany, 1645 Cherokee Lane,Stockton,CA -
September 22, 2008
Page 1
1.0 INTRODUCTION
-" On behalf of Central California Traction Company(CCT),TRC submits this Additional Soil and
Groundwater Investigation Report documenting additional site assessment activities performed
at the CCT Stockton Railyard, located at 1645 Cherokee Road in Stockton, California (the Site,
- Figure 1). This work was completed as proposed in the October 4, 2007 Additional Soil and
Groundwater Investigation Work Plan and the December 17, 2007 Additional Soil and
Groundwater Investigation Work Plan Addendum. The proposed scope of work and boring
- locations proposed in the Work Plan and Work Plan Addendum were approved by the San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) in a letter dated March 17, 2008.
The objective of this soil and groundwater assessment was to further characterize the extent of
hydrocarbons in both soil and groundwater.
The scope of work for this assessment included the following:
• Completion of six(6) soil borings.
• Collection of soil and grab groundwater samples for analysis at a state-certified
laboratory.
• Installation and development of three (3) groundwater monitoring wells.
• Collection of groundwater samples from the wells for analysis at a state-certified
laboratory.
• Evaluation of groundwater data to better define the lateral and vertical extent of
groundwater impacts within the water-bearing zone.
This report documents the drilling of soil borings and monitoring well installations that were
completed on June 12 through June 18, 2oo8.
2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION
The subject property is located in a commercially zoned area at 1645 Cherokee Road, Stockton,
California (Figure 1 and 2). The site, currently owned by CCT, is a non-paved triangular lot
operated as a rail yard and maintenance facility by the CCT. The site is bounded to the north by
a commercial facility, to the southwest by Sanguinetti Lane, and to the southeast by Cherokee
Road.
3.o GEOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY
The subject property is situated at an elevation of 21 feet mean sea level (MSL) and lies within
the Great Valley Province, which is dominated by the alluvial basin of the Sacramento Valley.
This region is composed primarily of Quaternary aged alluvium, mainly in the form of
unconsolidated flood plain deposits. The main soil types that exist in this type of deposit are
sand, silt, gravel and clay that are irregularly interstratified. The primary mechanism for
sedimentation in this area has been fluvial.
The subject property is underlain by layers of silt, sandy silt, and silty sand (URS Greiner
Woodward Clyde (URSGWC) 1999)• Depth to groundwater in onsite wells was approximately
45 to 50 feet below grade (fbg) during 2001 and 2002.
