r
SECTIONONE Introduction
9.1 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of a site investigation performed by URS Greiner Woodward
Clyde (URSGWC) at the Central California Traction Co (CCTC) facility located at 1645
Cherokee Lane in Stockton, Califorma
The purpose of the investigation is to collect soil and groundwater samples for analysis for Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-diesel), TPH-gasoline, methyl-tertiary-butyl-ether
(MTBE), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) In a letter dated May 20, 1999,
Ms Lori Duncan of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division requested that a
Workplan for a site investigation be submitted by July 16, 1999 to investigate the vertical and
lateral distribution of petroleum hydrocarbons at the site In response to this letter, URSGWC
submitted a Workplan on June 24, 1999 The Workplan was approved in a letter from Ms
Duncan dated May 20, 1999
The site characterization activities described in this Report involved the following tasks
o Field exploration to collect soil samples and a shallow groundwater sample,
0 Laboratory analysis of the samples collected and QA/QC of the results,
0 A survey of all domestic, agricultural, industrial, and municipal wells within a 2,000-foot
radius of the site, and
Q Data analysis and reporting
The field exploration sampling activities were conducted on August 2-3, 1999 Figure I shows
the sampling locations A total of five borings were drilled by Gregg Drilling & Testing, Inc of
1 Martinez, California, using 5 5-inch diameter hollow-stem augers The drill rig was mounted on
a Rhino D-15 tracked vehicle When the augers reached an appropriate depth, 18-inch long soil
samples were collected inside stainless steel tubes using a Geoprobe direct-push sampling
device
Soil samples were collected at 5-foot (ft) intervals from a depth of 10-ft to 56 5-ft below ground
surface (bgs) in Boring B-1 Boring B-2 was continuously sampled to 20-ft bgs using a
Geoprobe direct-push sampling device Below 20-ft bgs, the direct-push device was refused
The rest the boring was sampled at 5-ft intervals to 31 5-ft bgs Borings B-3, B-4 and B-5 were '
drilled and sampled at 5-ft intervals from 10-ft bgs to 31 5-ft bgs using hollow-stem augers
The boring logs are presented in Appendix A The soil samples were submitted for laboratory
analysis A grab groundwater sample was collected from Boring B-1 Section 2 1 describes the
field exploration activities
The results of the laboratory analyses performed on the samples are presented in Section 2 2
The samples were analyzed for(Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons) TPH-diesel, TPH-gasoline,
MTBE and BTEX
Section 3 0 presents the results of the data evaluation Conclusions and recommendations are in
Section 4 0
r
URS Greiner Woodward Clyde 3 10996704MUST REPORT CHEROKEE OOCY22 SEP 99VOAK 1-1
1
