Box 8068 Stockton, CA 94208 SUBJECT: Work Plan for Site Investigation- and Overexcavation around former underground tanks in the Thomas Yard, Delta Truck Sales, Stockton, California. Dear Mary: Environmental Science & Engineering, Inc. (ESE) presents this Work Plan to estimate the lateral and vertical extent of hydrocarbons in the soil beneath the building near the excavation of underground fuel tanks and'product lines removed from the Thomas Yard at 3437 Newton Road;Stockton, California. This Work Plan also covers overexcavation of the site, except for the building, to remove soil containing hydrocarbons. Background Figure 1 - Site Plan shows the locations and analytical results of five soil samples obtained when the tanks and product piping were removed in January 1989. ; 'Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHG) were found at concentrations of 12 and 2,200 parts per million (ppm), levels of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as-diesel (TPHD) ranged from- nondetectable (ND<10) to 5,500 ppm. Benzene,Toluene,Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes were- found at concentrations ranging from nondetectable (<0.025-25) to-300 ppm. One of the three samples contained 9 ppm lead (detection limit 5 ppm). Three samples analyzed for Ethylene Dibromide contained nondetectable (<0.25-25 ppm) concentrations. Significant levels of-hydrocarbons appeared to be limited to samples 5 and 2, taken from beneath the product lines and the west end of the diesel tank, respectively.
