19 October 2012
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0312
• December 2005 - All monitoring wells were re-designated with a preceding
MW instead of UST to normalize the well identifications.
• 22 December 2006-A Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT) Report was completed.
The advancement of the two CPT soil boring groups, CPT-1 and-2,were completed
on 24 April 2006. Each advancement event collected two grab groundwater
samples. CPT-1 collected grab groundwater samples at 66 feet and 103.5 feet bsg.
The only analyte detected was in the 66 foot sample, 190 pg/I of 1,2 -
Dichloroethane. CPT-2 recorded no detections above the sampling detection limits.
• 30 July 2008 - pilot borings were advanced at the site using a CME-75 truck
mounted drill rig to advance 8-inch or 12-inch diameter hollow-stem augers to total
depths of 30 feet bsg. Pilot borings VW 1, VW2 and VW3 were completed as soil
vapor wells (VW-1, VW-2 and VW-3) using 4-inch or 2-inch diameter PVC casing
with a 0.030-inch slotted screen installed from 10 feet to 30 feet bsg. Filter pack(#3
sand) was installed from total depth to approximately two feet above the slotted
y screen. A total of 18 soil samples were analyzed. TPH-g , TPH-d, and two or more
BTEX compounds were reported in all soil samples collected from boring V1 at
maximum concentrations of 670 mg/kg TPH-g(V1-20), 8,600 mg/kg TPH-d(V1-25),
5 mg/kg benzene (V1-25), 70 mg/kg toluene (V1-25), 49 mg/kg ethylbenzene (V1-
25), and 130 mg/kg total xylenes (V1-25). TAME was reported in V1-5 at a
concentration of 0.11 mg/kg. No other fuel oxygenates were reported in any of these
samples. TPH-g and TPH-d were reported in two out of six samples collected from
boring VW2 at maximum concentrations of 530 mg/kg and 7,000 mg/kg,
respectively(V2-5). BTEX compounds and fuel oxygenates were not reported in any
of these samples. TPH-g was reported in four out of six samples collected from
boring V2 at a maximum concentration of 540 mg/kg (V2-5). TPH-d was reported
in five out of six samples collected at a maximum concentration of 6,400 mg/kg(V3-
5). BTEX compounds and fuel oxygenates were not reported in any of these
samples.
2.5. SOIL CHARACTERIZATION
Stratigraphic descriptions presented in several historical reports and boring logs recorded
during AGE's site assessment investigations were used to characterize the geological and
hydro-geological framework and to assess potential migration pathways. In general, the
soil profile beneath the site is fairly homogeneous vertically, consisting primarily of silt,
clayey silt, sandy silt and silty clay. However, interbedded coarse-grained soil consisting
of silty sand and fine-grained sand with silt was observed in soil samples recovered from
several of the soil borings at varying depths. Boring logs are included in Appendix B.
Figures which illustrate subsurface geologic profiles at the site are provided in Appendix C.
Advanced CeoEnvironmental,Inc.
