Box 2009
Stockto-, CA 95202
SUBJECT: Work Plan for Ground Water Investigation near the Underground Storage
Tanks at Delta Fleet, 3535 Cherokee Road, Stockton, San Joaquin County,
California
Dear Ms. Reuss:
Environmental Science & Engineering, Inc. (ESE) presents this work plan for a ground-
water investigation near the underground storage tanks at the subject facility.
J BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
The subject site is a truck stop, sales, repair, and fueling facility. The site is mostly paved
with concrete and asphalt and the topography is flat. There are currently six fuel islands
on site dispensing regular and unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel. The underground tank
cluster lies east of the fuel islands and consists of five tanks: rivo 10,000-gallon diesel tanks
manifolded together, one 8,000-gallon diesel tank, one 8,000-gallon regular gasoline tank,
and one 7,500-gallon regular gasoline tank. There is also a 2,000-gallon unleaded gasoline
tank approximately 30 feet south of the larger fuel island in the center of the site.
The site assessment is in response to unauthorized releases of fuel documented by San
Joaquin Co. Public Health Services Department/Environmental Health Division from a
diesel pipeline on May 23, 1988, a regular gasoline pipeline on April 5, 1989, and a full
tank system testing failure on June 29, 1989. There were additional unauthorized releases
documented from waste oil tanks, which have been removed from the site.
In May 1990, ESE assessed the vertical and horizontal extent of hydrocarbons in the soil
near the product lines and underground tanks by drilling and sampling a series of soil
borings. The results of this assessment are contained in the "Report of Site Assessment for
Delta Truck Sales,3535 Cherokee Rozd,San Joaquin County, Stockton, California,"dated
June 14, 1990. The attached Figure 2 - Approximate Extent of Soil Containing
Hydrocarbons, was taken from this report. This figure shows that detecr, able levels of
hydrocarbons were found in the soil to a depth of 50 feet. Table 1 - Soil Sampling
----—-- --—— ---- ----Analytical-Results,shows that the-actual concentrations of hydrocarbons.in-the soil ranged
from nondetectable (ND) to 5,800 parts per million (ppm) for Total Petroleum
-507 Center Avenue,5uiie 350 Martinez,CA 91553 Phone{415)372-3037 - F.ix(415)377.-3790 -
Formerly known a5 HunlerlGregg,Inc.
