Quarterly Report - September 1997
CHEROKEE TRUCK STOP
3535 East Cherokee Road, Stockton, California
1.0. INTRODUCTION
In accordance with the request of Mr Ellis Cecchinl of Cecchtnl, Cecchlnl and Giovannoni,
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc (AGE)has prepared this report for field work performed at 3535
East Cherokee Road, Stockton, California, during the third quarter of 1997 Four ground water
monitoring wells were purged and sampled on 17 September 1997 Six USTs and associated piping
and dispensers were removed in September 1997 The procedures and findings are reported in a UST
Removal Report in preparation by AGE The location of the site is illustrated on Figure 1 -Location
Map Structures, monitoring well and former UST locations are illustrated on Figure 2 -Site Plan
Field work was performed In accordance with San Joaquin County Public Health Services -
Environmental Health Division (PHS-EHD) and Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control
Board (CVRWQCB) guidelines for the investigation of underground storage tank (UST) sites
Background information was summarized in the Quar terly Report-March 1997 prepared by AGE
20 PROCEDURES
2 1 MONITORING WELL PURGE PROCEDURES
On 17 September 1997, a Solinst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water
in four monitoring wells at the site relative to the tops of the well casings Monitoring well UST-1
was not accessible, and therefore a depth-to-water measurement was not collected The depth to
water was also measured in three monitoring wells installed for an unrelated Investigation at the
northern portion of the property (SI-1, SI-2 and SI-3) The ground water elevation in each well and
hydraulic gradient were detennined from these data (Table 1)
After measuring ground water depths, monitoring wells UST-2 through UST-5 were purged using
a Grundfos submersible purge pump Approximately 4 to 10 gallons of water were removed from
monitoring wells UST-2 through UST-5 (a minimum of three well volumes for each well)
Temperature, pH and conductivity of purged water were measured at regular intervals during
purging Monitoring well stabilization data and field sheets are included in Appendix A Purged
water was stored on-site in 55-gallon DOT drums pending laboratory analyses
22 COLLECTION OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Water samples were retrieved from each purged well using new disposable bailers Each sample was
transferred into 40-m1 EPA-approved VOA vials containing 0 5 ml of 18%hydrochloric acid as a
Advanced GeoEn%ironmentai,Inc
