CENTRAL VALLEYOEGIONAL WATER QUALIT'ONTROL BOARD
INSPECTION REPORT
DISCHARGER: Delta Truck Sales 31 May 1989
LOCATION & COUNTY: Stockton, San Joaquin County
CONTACT(S) : Ken Smith, President; Mary Varela, Environmental Specialist
INSPECTION DATE: 27 April 1989
INSPECTED BY: Robert L. Niblack
ACCOMPANIED BY: Ken Smith, Mary Varela
OBSERVATIONS
The purpose of this inspection was to sample a water supply well several feet to the west
of a surface impoundment subject to regulation by the Toxic Pits Cleanup Act. According
to Mary Varela this well was probably constructed about 1967. The total well depth is 178
feet, and the screened interval is unknown.
Water samples were collected for analysis by EPA Methods 601, 602, and 625, for analyses
for major cations and anions, pH, EC, total dissolved solids, alkalinity, and CAM metals.
A portable meter indicated pH of the well water was 7.0, and electrical conductivity was
460 umho/cm.
Samples were taken from a sampling port between the well head and the pressure tank.
Casing is 18 inches in diameter and a 4-1/2 inch (outside diameter) pipe is cemented into
the top of the casing.
Mary Varela observed sampling of the well .
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Water samples were analyzed for organic constituents at Enseco Incorporated in West
Sacramento. Results of the analyses for halogenated Volatile Organics (EPA Method 601) ,
Aromatic Volatile Organics (EPA Method 602) , and Semivolatile Organics (EPA Method 625)
showed none of these constituents were present in the samples above the reporting limits.
Water samples were analyzed for CAM metals by Central Coast Analytical Services in San Luis
Obispo. Three metals were found in the samples above the reporting limit. Barium was
present at a concentration of 130 ug/L, chromium was present at 9 ug/L, and vanadium was
present at 30 ug/L.
Water samples were analyzed for general minerals and other water quality parameters at
Sierra Foothill Laboratory in Jackson. Those results are attached to this report along
with the other laboratory reports.
