SERVICES
L
VVV SE P 2 2 1987
June 12, 1987 ENVIROMENTAL HEALTH
FERMIT/SERVICES
California Regional Water
Quality Control Board
Attn: Patricia H. Leary
Central Valley Region
3443 Routier Road
Sacramento, CA 95827-3098
RE: Delta Truck Sales
Dear Ms. Leary:
SITE HISTORY
The pit was opened in approximately 1970. This was accomplished by use of a
bulldozer scraping out a roughly rectangular pit with various dimensions of
approximately 20 feet by 40 feet with the depth ranging from 4 feet to 8 feet.
The approximate capacity being 36,000 gallons if completely full. Delta
insists the pit contained no more than 12 inches to 24 inches of water/oil
at any time. The pit was not lined with any clay or sheeting, the bottom
consisted of natural sandy/clay soil.
The pit was operated until approximately March, 1985. At this time, the pit
was filled with dirt and rubble from local construction and a covering
of 3/4 inch S/P/A/B road base (sandy clay with 3/4" crushed rock) approxi-
mately 8 inches to 12 inches thick was overlaid on the entire area.
PIT USAGE
The pit was used solely by Delta Truck Sales (formerly Delta White Truck
Sales) for disposal of the water and oily sludge from the truck shop steam
clean area. Delta Truck insists they have always used biodegradable steam
cleaning soaps and have never used any solvents to steam off the truck chassis
and parts. Approximate daily inflow would vary from zero gallons to a few
hundred gallons. Delta claims they cannot be more specific.
PRESENT SYSTEM
After close out, Delta has been using a system consisting of three oil
separators and a 100 foot leech line. The system was designed in-house
and constructed by Delta Truck Sales.
The first two oil separators consist of 36 inch cisterns connected in series.
The last separator consists of a concrete septic tank. The leech line con-
sists of approximately 40 feet of non-perforated PVC pipe 6 inches in diameter
leading from the tank and connected to 100 feet of 6 inch diameter PVC
perforated pipe laid in gravel.
175 Industrial Way • Benicia, CA 94510 • (707) 746-7966'
