February 13, 1988 AGS Job No. 2005-P
Delta Truck Sales, Stockton, California
excavation, 4,k,. ntinuout"subjective evaluation will be utiliz#di
Gq segregate "contaminated!!, soil from "clew" ' soil on the basis;
ofnoticeableodor,tvisible discoloration, or other subjective
evidence of contamination. A field photoionizing hydrocarbon
vapor detector will be tested as an evaluating tool and may prove
to be useful in providing additional evidence of the degree of
soil segregation. The respective soil piles will be isolated
from each other pending chemical analyses to verify the levels of
contamination in both piles.
Applied GeoSystems recommends that both soil piles be temporarlya
placed on two to three layers of 0. 020-inch thick plastic
sheeting (Visqueen) . The sheets should be laid so that sheet
edges overlap by several feet, thus reducing the likelihood of
leachate migratn into the soil below the piles. The ground
i
below the temporary storage piles should be smoothed and sharp
objects removed to reduce the possibility of puncturing the
plastic.
tMoisture in-the piles should be:kdpt.';,to. a minimum to reduce the
probability of leachate formation or migration y:covering; the;
piles Theov should consist of,,pjastic sheeting, suitably
as chored with weicghta (soil or other heavy objects) to prevent
5
